McCollum Celebrates 40th Anniversary of School Bus Safety Week October 15-21
Thursday, October 12, 2006

“More than 25 million children rely on school buses to get to and from school safely each day.  While school bus transportation is considered the safest form of ground transportation, accidents still happen and sometimes result in the tragic and untimely death of a young child.  It is critical that we continue to support policies that encourage continued refinements in the safe transport of children.

“In recognition of the importance of school bus safety, I have co-sponsored House Resolution 498, which has been introduced to support the goals and ideals of School Bus Safety Week, which falls in the third week of October.  This week presents an important opportunity for students, parents, motorists and school bus drivers to focus on the safety rules and the resources that keep our children safe as they travel to and from school every day.  This is why I, and 423 of my colleagues, supported this piece of legislation, to ensure that school bus transportation continues to be the safest mode of transportation for our children.”
